Crunch Belly Pork - chinese style

Crunchy Belly Pork

Crunchy Belly Pork

Ingrediants
1) half a lemon
2) salt
3) baking soda
4) chinese spice
5) pork belly

Instructions
a) SCRAPE the skin of the belly of pork so it becomes "furry".
b) Spike the skin for the belly pork so that the salt/baking soda (next part) get's into the spike holes.
c) cover the sliced side of the lemon with salt, and also add touch of the baking soda so that it sticks on the lemon - then rub this into the belly of pork.
d) repeat (c) till the belly of pork skin is salted.
e) hang the belly of pork for AT LEAST 1 day for the salt to draw the moisture out of the skin.
f) after a day or so - get a large basting tray and wire rack. The rack is essential so that the meat is not stewing in any cooking fats that come out of the meat.
g) quickly preheat an oven to max (mine was a fan assisted one, max was 230 C).
h) place cured meat on rack in the tray and place in the middle of the oven for about 1hour 20mins (check after 40 minutes).
i) keep the kitchen well ventilated when you open the oven door.
j) once the meat is cooked, you could hang it up to rest before getting the meat cleaver out to chop into bite-sized portions.

Tips
If the meat is quite fatty, hang till it stops dripping.

Cook for an hour or till cooked.

Done.

Ebay - exploding GU10 LED bulb

I've recently bought some LED GU10 bulbs for the kitchen, thinking that LED bulbs would last longer than those cheap bulbs from the supermarket.

These were from a UK seller on Ebay.

To say I'm shocked at the exploading bulb after a couple of days use is an understatement.

The last image shows the top of one of the bulbs.
The right hand side of the dome feels as if it's been seated more into the casing. I'm not sure if these are hand made, or just generally poor quality, but these are dangerous.

VW AUDI SEAT SKODA reprogramming key fob

Original material from www.techwatch.co.uk and cross referenced with www.autokeysquad.com and my first "How To" video !.

I've recently experienced loss of operation of my skoda key fob, and thought I needed to reprogram the key fob.

Luckily, I just replaced the internal battery with a new CR2032 (or CR2025 and some paper wadding).

I've post a video on YouTube : How To Replace the Battery in the Key Fob

Anyway - the process to reprogram the key fob is detailed below (try these instructions at your own risk !)

Remote Control Programming (1997 ON)
The process requires the use of 2 keys.
The 1st key is your original key that is working in your car.
The 2nd key will be a new remote key correctly cut to work in your locks,
or the 2nd key could be an existing remote key which has a damaged remote, or doesn't seem to work.

Top Tip ! Always lower drivers window when carrying out this procedure (so you can reach into the car).

  1. Place your 1st key in ignition and turn on so that dash is lit up and leave the key in the ignition.
  2. Mechanically lock the drivers side door and lock with the 2nd key.
  3. Using the remote on the 2nd key, press the unlock button once. The horn should sound (if the horn doesn't sound don't worry just carry on with the procedure).
  4. Wait 6 seconds and again press unlock button once (on the 2nd key). The remote is now programmed.
  5. Now switch off ignition and try your remote.

And for completeness - here's the process for blanking key fobs.

Remote Control Erasing (1997 ON)

  1. Place your 1st key in ignition and turn on so that dash is lit up, leaving the key in the ignition.
  2. Mechanically lock the drivers door using a second key.
  3. Press the remote control unlock button on the 2nd key 5 times in 1 second intervals. A short horn will sound.
  4. Wait 6 seconds and press the unlock button once on the 2nd key to activate memory erase.
  5. Switch ignition off, all remote key fobs are now erased.

Skoda Fabia vRS Rear Tow Bar

I've been thinking about the option of a rear tow bar / towing eye on the back of the Skoda Fabia vRS.

I know it's not legal, as the car was never designed to have one, even though the lower models could have a towing eye.

I then remembered seeing this limited edition vRS at a service station a while back with one fitted....

hmmmmm

Torrential downpours, a month's worth of rain in 12 hours

At the start on June 2012, a month's worth of rain fell in 12 hours.

As a way to gauge what this might look like, I moved my blue wheelie bin under a broken gutter near a garage.

240 litre capacity filled.
